How cooked is your brain?

A test of your everyday habits and how you use AI.

What it measures

This is a personal project to help you check yourself for over-reliance on AI and what researchers call human enfeeblement: slowly losing abilities we stop using because a machine does them for us. Nobody notices it happening, which is the point of checking.

Researchers increasingly find that what matters is how you use AI, not how much. Letting it do your thinking is linked to weaker independent thinking. Using it to support your thinking, or to take over tedious stuff you'd never learn from anyway, isn't. This test rewards the second kind.

It also looks past AI, at the everyday habits linked to long-term brain health: learning new things, focus, movement and people.

Read the research

Everything in this test is built on the work below. Most of the AI research is new, and several studies are small or correlational, so the notes say how much weight each one can carry.

Plot twist

Preheating your results

You're

0%cooked by 2036

The 2036 bit is a joke. No study can forecast your brain in ten years. The score reflects how your current habits line up with what research links to sharper or duller thinking. (This is a way to check your own AI use and reliance habits. It doesn't diagnose anything. Some health and neurological differences can shape how people answer questions about focus, memory or getting around, so read your score as a ballpark, give or take 10 to 20 points.)

Higher is better for your brain in every row.

The fine print

What this test is, and isn't

This is a self-reflection quiz, not a validated psychological instrument or a medical test. Questions and scoring are built from published research, but the test itself hasn't been validated. Most of the AI research is recent, many studies are correlational, and some are small or not yet peer reviewed. Treat your result as a mirror, not a diagnosis. Some health and neurological differences affect focus, memory and navigation in ways this quiz can't tell apart from habits, so your score could sit 10 to 20 points off for reasons that have nothing to do with AI.

If you're genuinely worried about your memory or thinking, talk to a doctor. That's a different conversation from this quiz.

How scoring works

Each question scores one of six areas from 0 to 100. Your "cooked" percentage is a weighted average of those areas, flipped so that higher means more cooked. Thinking first, fact-checking and brain reserve count most. Smart delegation counts least, since doing boring tasks by hand costs you time more than brain. Your type comes from your pattern across areas, not your total alone. Answers like "I don't use AI" or "spatial awareness is not my forte" are left out of the scoring rather than counted against you.
